New Weightlifting Platforms at MyGym Hazel Grove
MyGym Hazel Grove underwent its latest round of significant improvements on the 11th and 12th of April.
We were already the best-equipped gym in Hazel Grove, but the addition of 5 new lifting platforms gives us a huge leap forward. If you’re looking for a strength and conditioning gym in Hazel Grove, there’s nowhere close to us.
That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.
We have 12 squat racks, 5 lifting platforms, 100 square metres of turf, prowlers, drag sleds, wall ball targets, dumbbells to 50kg, kettlebells to 40kg, 40 barbells, 12 benches and everything else you could possibly need. We’re a gym that caters for all fitness goals, from general fitness to sports-specific training.
Our platforms aren’t just off-the-shelf junk either. They’re custom-made for us, designed to IWF standards. Each platform weighs well over 100kg, so they’re rock-solid, stable and designed with the lifter in mind. The ground reaction force from having a platform under your feet rather than rubber tiles is noticeable straight away. It makes squatting, deadlifting and Olympic weightlifting a completely different experience.
Why Add Weightlifting Platforms?
We have 43mm rubber tiles in our lifting area, meaning you can drop bumper plates on the floor without issue. That’s great from a safety point of view, but it’s not optimal for performance.
The rubber tiles can support 140kg without any give. After that, they start to compress slightly, which can turn into a power leak. Whilst 99% of lifters won’t notice a difference, the people lifting heavier and heavier weights will. By adding a platform to the floor, the lifter has a harder surface to lift from. This increases ground reaction force, stopping the power leak and enabling the lifter to lift more weight.
The platforms have been in for less than a week at the time of writing, and we’re already seeing PBs from people at the gym!
I also felt there was an element of legitimacy at play here. We’re a strength and conditioning gym, so I felt it was fundamentally important for us to have a series of platforms. Rather than add one platform, I wanted to wait until we could do it properly. When the budget allowed us to include 5 platforms, we went for it.
If you’re into general fitness, weightlifting, CrossFit, HYROX, power lifting or anything in between, we’re the perfect gym for you.
